Maggie Price - Landscapes in Pastel April 13-15, 2012, Conroe, TX
Dear fellow artists,
I am very excited to announce a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with one of the world’s most accomplished pastel artists, Maggie Price. Maggie has worked in oils, acrylic, and watercolor but when she turned to pastel in the early “90’s she found her passion and it’s been her primary medium since. While she recently returned to oil painting, she teaches techniques in pastel and prefers that medium when traveling or painting outdoors. Price was a co-founder and the former editor of The Pastel Journal, a national magazine for pastel artists (now owned by F+W Media), and has written over a hundred articles about pastel art and artists. She continues to write occasional articles for the magazine. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Signature Member and Distinguished Pastelist of the Pastel Society of New Mexico, Signature Member of Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, a member of the Master Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies and a member of the Salmagundi Club of New York City. She is the President and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Pastel Societies, and serves as contributing editor and on the editorial advisory boards of The Pastel Journal and The Artist’s Magazine. She is the author of the book Painting With Pastels (North Light Books 2007) and also Painting Sunlight & Shadow with Pastels (North Light Books 2011) as well as two instructional DVD’s. Her work has been included in numerous juried exhibitions, magazine articles and books. She is one very busy woman and the fact that she has made time out of her schedule to come to Conroe, TX is quite amazing. If you are a pastel artist, are studying to become a pastel artist, have an interest in pursuing pastels, then this workshop is a must. Her landscapes are breathtaking! |
Ottis & Bonnie Hilburn- Photograhing your artwork -May 5
Conroe Art League is proud to host a pair of their own members for a workshop on photographing artwork for archival purposes as well as turning them into prints, cards, etc.
If you have been wondering how you could expand your market with your art then this is the workshop for you. Ottis and Bonnie will show you how you can use digital photography to not only publish photos of your artwork, but also create cards, calendars, etc. to sell.
Dr Hilburn has been a CAL member six years and is a former president of the League. Bonnie, his wife, served as an administrator of the Woodlands High School for twenty years. Both have advanced degrees, Ottis with a PhD and two Master's degrees and Bonnie with a M Ed and advanced certifications.
At the start of his career, Ottis gained experienced in photography when he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Co. in Photographic engineering and later as a technical illustrator for the Cardwell Corp. During his college years, Ottis served as an art editor for the yearbook and cartoonist for the college newspaper. He traveled worldwide and developed an educational film series for Central Africa.
He and Bonnie continue to travel widely taking more than 3,000 photos each year. Dr. Hilburn has developed three film series for educational work.
Photo recording for the Hilburns arose out of the necessity of keeping a record of paintings and art work sold. After her retirement, Bonnie sharpened her computer skills by printing Ottis' paintings for cards, prints, calendars and brochures as a part of their joint artistic efforts.
The four hour workshop will focus on photographing art as well as digitally recording and printing photos on the computer. It is designed to be brief and inexpensive with a sharp focus on the vital and useful elements of the digital photographic process. Bring your digital camera and one or two pieces of your artwork for this workshop. It will be very hands on.
