Participate, Share, and Celebrate the Arts

GALLERY HOURS

We are open Tuesday through Saturday

from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Docent shifts are 11:00 - 1:30 and 1:30 - 4:00.

On November 17th the gallery will be staying open until 7:00 for Sip N' Shop 

HOLIDAY HOURS:

We will be closing at 1:30 pm on Wed, Nov 23rd for Thanksgiving and reopening on Saturday, Nov 26th.  We will also be closed on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

 

DOCENT TRAINING:

A docent training session, led by Brenda McDougall, will be held on November 18th from 11:30-12:30 in the gallery. Please contact docentcoordinator@conroeartleague.com to sign up.

CULTURAL DISTRICT CELEBRATION

 

The event to proclaim Downtown Conroe a State of Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts was held October 23rd and went off without a hitch. CAL is incredibly grateful for the hard work Brett Hall put into helping put us on the map.

ARTISTS IN ACTION X2

You have two opportunities to sign up to be one of the "Artists In Action" this month.  The gallery is open late for the downtown Conroe event "Sip n' Shop" and will offer the chance to work on a current project in the gallery and share with the general public.

This monthly event is limited to 4 artists on each occasion, the first being the 17th (Sip n' Shop)and the second being the 29th (Christmas on Main).  Artist must be a CAL member and provide all their own supplies/equipment and clean up when finished.  Artist are expected to be working on their art in the gallery from 4:00 to 7:00 and may bring samples of their art for sale.  All sales go through the CAL system with 20% going to CAL. 

The goal is to get more visitors in the gallery, sell more of your work and get to know fellow CAL members in a fun and creative way.

CRAFT WEEK

 

SAVE THE DATE & SAVE YOUR MONEY! Conroe Art League is hosting this years Fine Arts & Crafts Sale Nov 15th - 19th, 2022. Come by Tuesday - Saturday 11:00 am - 4:00 pm to buy unique gifts. The Madeley Gallery is a great place to check presents off your growing Christmas list.

EVERY VOTE MATTERS

Come visit the gallery and see the show winners for October.  Winners were (1) Juan Cantavella Award of Excellence to Sherina Welch for her photograph "Mystery", (2) Award of Distinction to Wendy Moreland for "Sister In Red Chair", and (3) Award of Merit to Patti Gary for "Windows To The Soul".

DECEMBER TAKE-IN/OUT

There will be two separate take-in registrations: 

One registration for the winners of the Fall Judged Show.  All adult members that won first, second, third, and first honorable mention winners, as well as Best Of Show, Best Landscape, and Best Floral may hang in the gallery during the month of December.  There is no hanging fee but one docent shift per piece is required. 

Additionally, there is a registration for our Christmas Is For Giving show.  This allows each adult member to hang up to 3 pieces of art with no hanging fee and only one docent shift – however, all art must be priced at $150 or less.

Take-In/Out will be Tuesday, November 29th, from 11 am - 4 pm. 

Be sure to register online and sign up for your docent shift prior to dropping off your artwork (here). Registration is required online and not later than Monday evening, 8:00pm, November 28th.  Please review the rules for displaying in the gallery (here).

STUDENT RAFFLE

 

Be sure to get your tickets for this month's raffle item

Support Montgomery County high school seniors and the student art awards by making a donation to participate in the drawing.

Purchase your tickets in person at the general meeting.

 The raffle items for December have been donated by Kathy Martin and Cynthia Reid. (journal sample below)

DIY ORNAMENTS

 

This year Conroe Art League members are encouraged to decorate one-of-a-kind DIY Christmas Ornaments. In fact, anyone can donate an ornament so feel free to spread the word.
All proceeds will go to the Student Awards Show in 2023.
Ornaments need to be fitted with a hanger and dropped off at the gallery. The size limitation is 5 inches. We will have a drop box available throughout November at CAL. 

 

MONTHLY GENERAL MEETING

The next general meeting will be held on

 Saturday, December 3rd, at 4:00 pm. 

 

 Demo Artist will be Carolina Dalmas who will be giving a demonstration on creating vivid flowers in pastel at 5:00 pm

(after the meeting).

ARTIST RECEPTION

The December reception will be Saturday the 3rd

from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

 

Congratulations to Judy Mackey.  Empowerment Coach and Author Christy Belz has just published a book titled "Oh God of Second Chances, Here I Am Again" and the cover art is from a painting by Judy.  The book is available on Amazon.

Congratulations to Debra Riley and Elizabeth Clemson whose art was selected as finalists in The Woodlands High School Art Trust.  See all the finalists here. Winners will be announced after the entire student body votes for their favorite pieces.  Those selected will be purchased and added to the permanent collection.

 

FINE ART SOIREE

 

Featuring the works of Brenda McDougall and Patti Gary from December 8th - 11th from 11 am to 4 pm. The reception will be held on the 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

12 X 12 TIME IS QUICKLY APPROACHING

 

Artist are finishing up final details and turning in their 12X12 donations for the 8th Annual Show and Auction benefiting the students of Montgomery County.

Artist please register your 12X12 here. The deadline is January 3rd.

We welcome models of all ages and sizes. Be sure to tell your grandchildren, children, and friends we are always in need of models for both the Wednesday drawing and the Friday portrait groups.

The Greater Conroe Arts Alliance will be hosting their Annual Greater Conroe Arts Festival on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 from 10:00-4:00 at Founders Park in Downtown Conroe. You are invited to bring your family and friends to come spend the day with us! There will be food trucks, fine art for sale, live music, plus plenty of activities for all ages!
