Supply List for Kim Casebeer Workshop

  • 3-5 different reference ideas. Reference for ideas can be photos and plein airs. More is better! 
  • Viva Paper towels - they soak up like cloth, can also use cotton rags
  • 5 1/2 x 8 inch or similar Sketch Book
  • Prismacolor Cool or Neutral Gray markers - 30%, 50%, 70%, and black, can add other values 
  • Optional: Wet Ones, ViewCatcher, Nitrile or latex gloves

Oil Painters:

  • Paints Needed: Cad Yellow Lemon, Yellow Ochre, Cad Red Light, Alizarin Crimson Permanent, Burnt Sienna, Asphaltum or Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Titanium White. Optional on Kim’s palette: Viridian or Phthalo Blue, Permanent Green Light, Transparent Orange 
  • Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel Medium
  • Gamsol odorless mineral spirits in a portable metal brush washer with snap down lid
  • Kim uses Silver Grand Prix long flat natural bristles and Silver Bristlon synthetic flats, Nos. 4, 6, 8,10 and a detail brush in a brush case. You will need both small (4,6) and wide (8,10). Can use similar quality brushes such as Rosemary, Royal Langnickel.
  • At least 2 nice metal painting knives
  • Pochade box such as Easy L or Open Box M on a quality tripod works best.
  • Sourcetek, Raymar, Centurian, or Pintura panels or similar. Kim uses Claessens #66, Oil-Primed Landscape Linen. Can also use canvas scraps tacked to board, or Arches oil paper for sketches. Needed: (6-8) 6x8 or 8x10 for sketches, (2) 12x16-16x20 for studio.
  • Wet canvas carrier if you need to transport your wet canvases

Pastel Painters:

  • At least 3 values of each color family. Organize your box by value and temperature. I divide mine into 3 compartments: light, medium, dark, cool to warm.
  • Soft Pastel suggestions: Schmincke, Unison, Terry Ludwig
  • Pastel pencils in neutral and earth colors for drawing
  • 400 grade UArt Paper. Needed: (6-8) 6x8-8x10 for quick sketches, (2) 12x16-18x24 for longer sessions. Tone paper with a light, transparent, earth tone wash.
  • Gatorboard large enough to hold your largest sheet of paper plus space to tape it down. 
  • Artist’s tape or clips to hold paper to the board
  • Blending tools: stumps, kneaded erasers, packing tape, bristle brushes, fine sand paper 
  • Pochade box such as Easy L or Heilman on a quality tripod works best.
