Registration

There are many aspects of glass art to explore, from traditional techniques like stained glass, fused glass, etching, and mosaic to new techniques like freeze-and-fuse.

Over the course of five days, you will learn both old and new techniques and put them to use in your creations.  You may attend as many of the daily sessions as you like; if you register for all five  days you will receive a $50 rebate.  All materials are provided for you and included in the registration fee.

CURRICULUM

Monday - in the morning, use freeze-and-fuse molds to create items from nature; in the afternoon, use casting molds and frit to create a butterfly or dragonfly.

Tuesday - cut and assemble a small stained glass piece.

Wednesday - create a tack and fuse glass piece using items previously created to complete your piece and experience a supervised pull with a vitrograph to form your own stems from molten glass.

Thursday - kiln carving in the morning; create a mosaic piece and/or complete an unfinished project in the afternoon.

Friday - learn to make photoresist masks for glass etching. Create a set of coasters made of glass, marble, or slate. Etch a stainless steel water bottle.

Location: Loraine's studio at 427 Jeremy Court, Spring TX 77386

Cost: $100 for each day or $450 for all 5 days.

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day

When Loraine moved to the U.S. from Scotland in 1997, she could not work, so she began to create with stained glass.  By 2010, she was a U.S. citizen, the owner of a kiln, and a fused glass artist.  She enjoys various forms of the medium, designing plates and bowls and creating landscapes and sgraffito (painting with glass powders on glass).  With her sandblasting cabinet, she also personalizes wine bottles, as well as etching glasses and coasters with custom designs.
